We have grown this melon from Zone 2b – 6b since we were introduced to the seeds over 25 years ago from a horticulturalist in Portage La Prairie, MB. Cream of Saskatchewan is a Slavic heirloom that was brought to the Saskatchewan prairie in the early 1900’s. Stripy green rind protects a delicious and juicy cream-coloured flesh. Melons range from 5-10 lbs and up to 10 inches in diameter This is a great all around open pollinated watermelon variety, adaptable to any home organic vegetable garden. Handle the rind with care since they are delicate when mature! In Japan, the seeds are used during the Bon Festival as offerings to guide the souls of the deceased. This plant spreads underground by rhizomes and should be contained in certain situations. Physalis is a close relative of the Cape Gooseberry but is not cultivated as a food crop. The fruit is tasteless and it should be noted that the unripe fruit and leaves are toxic if enough is ingested.

50 seeds per packet

Growing Information: Requires cold stratification before seeding. During the summer of 2018, while up high on the tractor saddle I noticed a few orange flowers along the west headland of our S field. It turns out they were that of a muskmelon growing in an old soil overburden/manure mound. The muskmelons that yielded were especially sweet with orange meat and a very hard grey/tan rind. Even our local porcupine eventually gave up on cutting through these! A fairly early maturing melon with sweet orange meat. Trying to identify the variety has been somewhat difficult; Although they resemble the Amish melon with the notably thick rind, and similar colour and shape, they are more analogous to the Noir des Carmes fruit in taste but certainly maturing around the same time as the Amish. We have dubbed this strain of what we believe to be Amish melon lineage as the 'Mosher Corner Strain'.

Maturity 75-80 days

25 seeds per packet

Planting Instructions: Seed indoors 1/2 inch deep. One of the most incredible family heirloom seed saves of all time. Discovered at the bottom of a trunk in Thunder Bay, Ontario by our Grandma Judy! These sweet peas had been in an envelope since 1912 with 100 or so viola flowers tied in small bundles with string, along with a few other seeds. The message written on the front: "first of season...Violets from my dear friend May... June 8th 1912" May was Judy's grandmother and it appears as if the envelope was gifted back to her at some point before she passed in the 1960's. May's husband Percy was a professional photographer in his lifetime and an avid horticulturist tending to his backyard oasis of flowers and fruit trees. We noted a few pictures of Percy standing beside his trellised peas and ornamentals! It is likely the seeds would have come from the Proudfoot gardens on Meryle Street in Thunder Bay.

The local cemetery would eventually encroach into Percy's former flower beds and garden plots, reinforcing the term "pushing daisies".

Upon opening the envelope, it was obvious that the viola seeds had since desiccated and were no longer viable. However, there were two other seeds sources inside. Several small dark grey seeds resembling buckshot. A very limited number of these germinated in the spring of 2021. We guarded them with our lives and they eventually sprouted into sweet peas. An incredible moment for us, noticing the emergence of each of the 7 sprouts in total! The power and energy of a seed is simply amazing!

The resulting flowers were even more astonishing. This sweet pea's bi-coloured blue and purple flowers are extremely fragrant. It is an early bloomer and an early finisher but so worthy. A stand out from a great distance, Percy Proudfoot sweet peas will climb 5-6 feet in their lifecycle. We think this is a very old Italian variety aka 'Sicilian Monk Peas' since they are so highly fragrant and early to bloom.

Extremely RARE - 20 seeds per packet

Growing Information: Starting indoors: Scarify seeds by nicking or filing a notch (pre-soaking for 2-3 hours in warm water or a weak solution of Chamomile tea may also increase germination %). - Sow 1/2" deep into cell flats or preferred deep-cell seedling container, 4-5 weeks before planting out. Grown for many years well into the late 1970's before going out of circulation by most seed companies, there were a few dedicated seed savers who luckily kept the lineage alive! This variety is early to head and so tender, one of the best we have ever cooked and eaten raw. Very worthy of bringing back to circulation. Very good disease resistance. Purple and yellow carrots are believed to have originated in the Middle East while the orange carrot is native to Europe.
