Scarlet Red Bee Balm (Monarda didyma) Scarlet bee balm is a very strikingly showy perennial with scarlet-red terminal flowers. Plants reach up to 3 ft tall on stems lined with large, ovoid dark-green leaves. Each single tube flower makes up a dense cluster of many in each 2 inch head. Leaves exude a unmistakable minty-oily odour. Hummingbirds are especially attracted to the red flowers. Like most Bee Balm, it can be susceptible to powdery mildew.
