Arikara Yellow Bush Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) A staple food crop of the Arikara people that helped to sustain the Lewis & Clark expedition's members during the difficult winter of 1805. Years later, Mr. Will of The Oscar Will Seed Co. collected seed from the Arikara peoples of South Dakota and introduced it as the ’Yellow Indian’ in the 1880’s which of course was later changed to Arikara Yellow. It is a fairly early maturing, determinate, compact, bush-type heirloom variety that produces tannish-yellow bean seeds. Although primarily used as a dry bean, it can also be harvested as a snap bean around 45 days. An excellent dry bean with good drought tolerance and disease resistance.
