Aster Crego Mix (Callistephus chinensis) The China Aster eventually made its way to North America by the late 1800’s after Jesuit missionaries initially discovered the species growing in a field near Beijing in the 1730’s. Seeds were available through the W. Atlee Burpee seed co. by 1883. This gorgeous heirloom, Chinese aster boasts a mix of purples, pinks, and whites. Ken’s grandmother grew these between the 1940s-80’s in Zone 2b, acquiring the seeds from a Livingston seed catalogue. The long-lasting 4-5” flowers are perfect in cut arrangements, garden beds, and borders. Stems are 18-24” in height. Also attracts many pollinators, blooming from mid-summer to late fall.
