Black Coat Runner Bean (Phaseolus coccineus) A rare heirloom runner bean noted as far back as the mid 1600's by German botanist, Michael Titus. Vines can reach up to 10 feet under ideal conditions, producing striking red-orange flowers that hummingbirds are highly attracted to. Runners produce 6-8 inch pods containing large, 1-1.5  inch shiny black seeds. Black Coat Runner beans mature earlier than its' cousin, the Scarlet Runner bean. Provide trellising or support for climbing habit of this stunning ornamental heirloom.

Growing Instructions: Sow seeds outdoors after danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures are over 20 degrees C. Sow at 1" depth and space seeds 3-5" apart. Plants will require trellising. Runner beans prefer full sun, although they do tolerate partial shade.
