Blue Podded Shelling Pea (Pisum sativum) An old Dutch soup pea variety, aka ‘Blauwschokkers’ meaning "blue pod" in Dutch. It is also thought to be the same variety as the Swedish 'Bla Orta' pea. Blue Podded peas reach the dry soup stage in about 85 to 100 days. They are also quite good immature as an edible podded snow pea but not as desirable as a fresh shelled pea. Often grown for its ornamental value, boasting 5-6 foot vines that require support. Bi-coloured flowers of pink-purple give way to deep blue-purple pods.
