Climbing French Pole Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) An excellent fresh eating bean that dates back to the early 1800's. Extremely delicious when picked young and tender. Plants are vine-like, resembling small lilac shoots with accompanying flowers. Sweet and flavourful off the vine, our Grandpa's favourite here at the farm. Snappy-green pods have gorgeous sleek, dark-purple seeds when mature. According to The Beans of New York (1931) it was the most widely cultivated French pole bean in England and for many years thereafter. Making a slow comeback but still quite rare. PLEASE save these seeds and share!
