Mina Lobata (Spanish Flag) (Ipomoea lobata) - A spectacular and unusual annual climbing vine known for its striking flower spikes that display a beautiful progression of colour from scarlet red and orange to golden yellow and creamy white as the blooms mature. The tubular flowers are arranged along one side of upright, arching stems, creating a distinctive display reminiscent of colourful flags fluttering in the breeze. Growing vigorously to approximately 10–16 feet long, Mina Lobata features attractive, deeply lobed green foliage and twining stems that readily climb trellises, fences, arbors, and other garden supports. Blooming from midsummer until frost, this eye-catching vine brings height, movement, and vibrant colour to the garden. The flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a wonderful addition to wildlife-friendly gardens. Thriving in full sun and moist, well-drained soil, Mina Lobata is an excellent choice for vertical interest and a dramatic late-summer floral display. We have had wonderful success growing this vine in both drought and wet seasons.
