Assiniboine Flint Corn (Zea mays) Assiniboine Flint Corn was long cultivated by indigenous tribes such as the Assiniboine, Ojibwe, and Cree who occupied the river  valleys of the Dakota's and southern Manitoba. A rare and precious heirloom dating back hundreds of years but officially introduced to the seed market by Oscar Will of North Dakota in 1917. Assiniboine Flint produces 6-8 inch cobs containing beautiful white, yellow and blue-purple coloured flint kernels, often showing a light speckled pattern. Stalks typically average 5 feet in height. This is a flint corn that is excellent for grinding into meal or flour or as a decorative statement!

**There are recored accounts of magically coloured corn cobs grown by indigenous peoples along the Red and Pembina Rivers of southern Manitoba. These writings evident in the journals of early European botanist/naturalist John Muir. He was most likely referring to a milling corn such as Assiniboine or Mandan Bride.
