Amish Knuttle Pole Bean - Mayflower (Phaseolus vulgaris) These beans are said to have been brought to North America on the Mayflower in 1620, followed by a long history of being circulated in the south-eastern USA. This is a very productive climber with short bumpy pods containing small square white seeds, blotched with rose coloured patches. The young string beans are delicious in flavour and the dry bean are also excellent.
