Arthur Reid Canning Pea (Pisum sativum) I have fond memories of raiding my parents garden and eating hand full's of these delicious plump peas. They were gifted from Art Reid of Portage La Prairie MB in the early 1980's who owned and operated the popular 'Nick's Cafe' after his retirement from the RCMP. He noted these peas were specifically developed for canning, however, we are not able to match them with any know varieties since it is very possible they are no longer in circulation. They never lasted long enough on our farm to make the canning stage since they were eaten in copious quantities. Our Nova Scotia trials have proven very worthy, even the Ring Necked Pheasants would agree having consumed hundreds!  This is a rather tall growing, sturdy pea plant. Pods are about 4 inches long and contain 9 beautiful green peas. Notably good resistance to powdery mildew. A rare heirloom pea.
