Blue Monday Sage (Salvia horminum) Also known as Salvia Clary Sage, this annual sage is best suited for growers in zones 3a-10. Blue Monday Sage is wonderful as a border or mass planting species and can also be grown successfully in containers. An obvious cut-flower specimen, these impressive large dark blue flower heads are alternately straddled upon 28 inch tall spikes, making them ideal in vase and dried arrangements. Flowers are very fragrant and attract pollinators from miles away. We noticed hundreds of our bees pollinating the sage blooms in late August, a colony that is nearly 1/2 mile away. This is a beautiful low-maintenance plant that loves full sun and will tolerate dry conditions. Also appears to be left untouched by deer and rabbits in our field.
