Black Kabouli Chickpea (Cicer arientinum) Also known as the Black Garbanzo bean, Kabouli Chickpeas are a highly nutritious packet of protein! Quite easy to grow and can be started at the same time regular garden peas are sown. Plants become bushy, reaching 2-3 ft in height. Small round pods are produced, each containing 1-2 black seeds. Most gardeners grow this species as a dry pulse, however, the 'green stage' of the seed is very good when eaten fresh.

Planting Instructions: Chickpeas need a long season so starting plants indoors is recommended at least 5-6 weeks before the last frost date in spring. Sow seeds at 1" depth and line out transplants 6" apart. Thin plants to 12" apart after true leaves have developed.
