Ailsa Craig Onion (Allium cepa) - This onion is named after a stoney island on the outer Firth of Clyde in Scotland, perhaps for its resemblance or the fact that the onion is hardy enough to grow at this northern coastal latitude. A classic mild flavoured onion with jumbo light-yellow tear-drop shaped globes growing up to 8 inches in diameter! Firm, with mild, sweet flesh, this onion has a real nice texture and is splendid in salads or finely sliced in sandwiches.

Growing Information: Start seeds indoors in late winter, covering lightly to 1/4 inch depth at 1/2 inch apart. Transplant during late spring, spacing seedlings 6-8 inches apart within the row. Harvest when leaves die back and bulbs have sized. Cure bulbs for 10-14 days out of direct sun.
