Long Island Improved Brussel Sprouts (Brassica oleracea) Also known as ‘Catskill’ this variety was introduced to North America in the 1890s. It was one of the most important commercial sprouts for many years and is still a favourite choice of home gardeners today. One stalk alone can bear up to 100 dark-green florets. Compact plants produce sturdy spikes with edible florets that mature from the bottom up becoming even sweeter after a light frost.
