Turkish Orange Eggplant (Solanum melongena) - Originating from Turkey, this heirloom is an easy-to-grow, heavy-producing variety of small, tennis ball–sized fruits that ripen from green to a vibrant orange. Also known as Scarlet Eggplant or Ethiopian Eggplant, it has a notably sweeter flavour than typical Asian varieties. Plants are sturdy, upright, and typically reach up to 3 feet in height in our maritime climate, making them excellent for containers, patios, or small urban gardens.

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep in consistently warm soil (22–28°C) and provide bright light to prevent leggy growth. Transplant seedlings into 1-inch cells or 2-inch pots at the 1–2 true leaf stage. Harden off for 4–5 days after the risk of frost has passed. Transplant outdoors once both day and night temperatures are consistently above 10°C. Space plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun with rich, well-drained soil for optimal production.
