Blue Boy Bachelor's Button (Centaurea cyanus) This is an old time classic annual flower, not to be confused with its cousin the Purple Mountain Cornflower, which is a perennial (Centaurea montana). Also known as “cornflower,” these strikingly blue flowers have lined home gardens for centuries. Bachelor button flowers are low maintenance and grow well in full sun. Expect shades of sky blue to vivid darks depending on climate and soil conditions. In 2018, during a very hot June, we noted a few beautiful variegated, striped silvery-blue blooms in one of our groupings. We hope you are lucky enough to see this genetic trait!
