Baba’s Giant Zinnia (Zinnia elegans) - An elegant giant dahlia-flowered zinnia dating back to the 1920’s. This strain has been in our family for over 75 years. My mother saved the seed from plants (still there today) in her mother’s farmyard in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. The densely pink-purple petaled, double flowers can exceed 4-5 inches across making them an aesthetic masterpiece, especially when grown in clumps. Deadheading will ensure showy vibrant stands for the length of the season. Three foot stems make this an ideal cutting flower. These are surprisingly tough plants that can adapt to drought and wet conditions. We are excited to offer this family heirloom.

Growing Information: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds on the soil surface and cover lightly with a dome or plastic film until they emerge. Keep soil moist and under full light. Harden seedlings for 7–10 days before transplanting outdoors.
Transplant or thin plants to 20–30 cm apart in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Zinnias thrive in full sun and bloom best with good air circulation.
