Iceland Poppy (Papaver nudicaule) - This species is not actually native to Iceland, but rather, common in sub-polar regions of Asia, North America, the mountains of Central Asia, and temperate China. A very hardy short-lived perennial plant often grown as a biennial. Long wiry curved stems contain a soft hairy pubescence with feathery aqua-green foliage. The flower resembles paper-like art with colours ranging from white, lavender, yellow, apricot to champagne pink. Ken initially collected this seed source in Kelowna, BC in 2004, the year after the Okanagan Mountain Park fire. The poppies were growing in a burned out park area near Kettle Valley. These tend to be our latest flowering poppy species and send blooms well into mid November.
