Dwarf Godetia (Clarkia amoena) This is a delightful annual flower also referred to as 'Farewell-to-Spring’ or ’Satin Flower’ in many regions of western Canada and the USA, named after  the Swiss botanist, C.H. Godet. Related to Evening Primrose (Onagraceae), 'Dwarf Godetia’ plants are native to Northern California, BC, and western prairie regions of NA. The genus is named after Williams Clark of the LEWIS CLARK EXPEDITION. Plants grow ten to fourteen inches tall and produce very showy bi-colour blooms on elegant stems ranging form white, shades of pink and lavender. Flower centers are dark red-burgundy. Godetia tend to thrive in marginal soils and bloom prolifically with our cooler Mountain air here in Nova Scotia. Seed germination is also higher when cooler wether conditions exist. A very sought after cut flower that will attract pollinators to your garden. Godetia are also stand-outs as border plants or in wildflower mixes.
