Dyer’s Coreopsis (Coreopsis tinctoria) - This tall species of Coreopsis is native to North America, most abundantly found in the plains and prairies. Often referred to as 'Calliopsis' in the deep south of the US or 'Tickseed' to many other gardeners. A very prolific producer of multi-headed yellow flowers with rich burnt red centers. Leaves are fern-like, borne on 30 - 40” long, slender stems. Performs best in full sun and will tolerate dry conditions. Dead-heading will increase the blooming period and overall flower density. If planted 4-6” apart, pants will support each other as they get lengthy. Flowers are very attractive to bees and will self-sow quite easily. When used in dyeing, wool will show as yellow to orange and cotton as a lighter yellow. A perfect xeriscape plant as it is low maintenance and drought tolerant.
