Garland Daisy (Chrysanthemum coronarium) Garland daisy is native to the Mediterranean region, where for centuries it has been used as a medicinal and culinary herb. Also referred to as Crown Daisy, It is more commonly cultivated here in North America as an ornamental or pollinator species. This daisy has fragrant greens that are often featured in Cantonese, Chinese, Japanese, and Taiwanese cuisine. They make a flavourful addition to soups and stir-fries. Also makes an excellent herbal tea when brewed, with noted accounts of garland daisy being used as an ancient Chinese remedy for treating headaches and sinus pain. Garland Daisies will grow up to three feet in height and begin blooming in the first days of early summer. A very showy mix of creamy white and sunny yellow blooms that are highly sough after by a diverse population of pollinators. We have enjoyed these bright flowers well into November here on the North Mountain of Nova Scotia.. so have the bees! For full blooming response, plant in full sun and water in early morning. Grows well in variable soil conditions.

Growing Information: Sow directly into garden soils in early spring when soil temperatures reach 10-12ºC, covering seed lightly. Expect germination in 7-10 days but can take up to 14 days in warmer, dry spring conditions. Thin plants to 12-18” apart after 2 leaf stage. Sow indoors at 1/8” depth, cover lightly with soil. Start seeds 6-8 weeks before last frost of spring. Plants respond fairly well to transplanting.
