Prairie Coneflower

Prairie Coneflower (Ratibida columnifera) - A native flower to the central prairies of North America. Also known as 'Thimble Flower' or the 'Mexican Hat Plant' since it resembles a small sombrero worn during Mexican fiestas. An upright, clump forming perennial that produces 2 inch yellow flowers with brown-black centers. Blooms from early July to September and can tolerate a wide variety of soil types providing full sunlight is available throughout the day. A great xeriscape plant for a water conserving garden. Butterflies will visit the flowers and birds will harvest the seeds in the fall if you don’t save them! Can be mass planted in establishing a wildflower meadow.

Growing Information: Indoors: Requires cold stratification for 6 weeks. Start plants in cell trays, sowing on the surface and cover lightly since light is required for germination. Keep moist but not too wet. Outdoors: Sow seeds ⅛ inches deep in the fall.
