Newport Pink Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus) - An old fashioned border favourite with large, single salmon-pink fragrant flowers. There are seed catalogues from the 1940s also referring to this pink-orange variety as 'China Carnation' and 'Poet’s Pink'. Newport Pink is a long flowering biennial that is ideal as a mixed border species or container plant. This antique variety makes a wonderful cut flower and will attract butterflies and bees to your garden. Will self-sow in the sunny location you provide! Plants reach 16-20 inches in height.

Growing InformationStart indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. This is a biennial plant, flowers will bloom in the second year.  Seeds can also be sown directly in summer, after the last frost. Sow seeds 3 inches apart and ¼ inch deep. Keep soil moist while seeds are germinating.  Seeds can be sown outdoors in the late fall to enhance spring germination.
