Blue Monday Sage (Salvia horminum) - This annual sage is well suited for growers in zones 3a–10. Blue Monday Sage performs beautifully as a border or mass planting and also grows very successfully in containers. An outstanding cut-flower specimen, its impressive large, dark blue flower heads are alternately arranged along 28-inch-tall spikes, making them ideal for both fresh vases and dried arrangements. The flowers are highly fragrant and attract pollinators from great distances, we observed hundreds of our bees visiting the blooms in late August from a colony nearly half a mile away. This is a beautiful, low-maintenance plant that thrives in full sun and tolerates dry conditions. In our field, it also appears to be left untouched by deer and rabbits.
