Greek Mullein (Verbascum olympicum) - Not to be confused with Common Mullein, Greek Mullein is native to the Balkan region of Southeastern Europe, particularly at higher elevations. Its medicinal uses are similar to Common Mullein, with both species valued for their antiviral and antibacterial properties. Plants typically reach 4–6 feet in height, producing large, showy, multi-branched spikes of bright yellow flowers by late summer, some of our plants have even reached 7 feet! Greek Mullein is considered a soft perennial in zones above 5, and more commonly a biennial in latitudes above 48. It attracts a wide range of pollinators.

Planting Information: Greek Mullein is a biennial, forming a rosette in the first year and flowering in the second. Seeds can be surface-sown in late fall or, if sowing in spring, requires 4–6 weeks of cold stratification in the refrigerator. Seeds need light to germinate, surface sow on soil in late spring and gently press in. Keep soil evenly moist and in bright light until germination, which usually occurs within a few days. Space plants approximately 2 feet apart when transplanting.
