Japanese Catnip (Schizonepeta tennifolia) - Also known as Jing Jie, Japanese Catnip is an annual Chinese medicinal herb widely cultivated for its antibacterial and therapeutic properties. Traditionally, the leaves and flowering tops are used to make tea for colds, allergies, and throat infections. Bushy plants grow 2–3 feet wide and typically up to 3 feet tall, producing fragrant purple flowering spikes. Even after the plants die back, their mint-like aroma often lingers through the winter months. This herb behaves as an annual in most regions of Canada.

Planting Instructions: Japanese Catnip prefers full sun, warm conditions, and well-draining soil of medium fertility. Surface-sow seeds and gently press into the soil without covering too deeply. Keep the soil evenly moist and in full light. Germination typically occurs within 1–3 weeks. Seeds can be sown directly in the spring garden or in outdoor pots. Transplants should be spaced 12 inches apart for optimal growth.
