Ethiopian Kale (Brassica carinata) - Grown as a leafy green like other Kale and mustard species. A very nutritious and flavourful variety that thrives in cool and dry weather, but has performed well in our cool and wet maritime climate. It also responds well to summer heat. The leaves are more tender than most kale, with a mildly pepper-like flavour. We enjoyed this in our salads numerous times this summer. Plants are very fast growing.

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost or direct sow as soon as the soil can be worked. Sow seeds ½ cm (¼ in) deep. Thin seedlings to 30–45 cm (12–18 in) apart, with rows spaced 45–60 cm (18–24 in). Kale prefers full sun and rich, well-drained soil. Keep soil evenly moist throughout the growing season. Harvest outer leaves as needed. Leaves are sweetest after a light frost.
