Yedikule Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) Yedikule lettuce is an ancient variety that dates back to the 6th century vegetable gardens of Istanbul. Yedikule lettuce is a variety of Romaine lettuce that is strongly linked to both the historic and contemporary everyday diet of the area. Cultivation of this lettuce is a celebratory event and has been handed down through countless generations. It has been a top performer here on our Nova Scotia farm. We sow this one year round under a cold frame. Flavour is pleasantly mild from these smooth textured and distinctive green coloured leaves. It has been a very hardy and pest resistant winner! Definitely a romaine to include in your garden planning!
