Cucamelon (Mouse Melon) (Melothria scabra) - This miniature melon tastes much like a mini cucumber with a slight citrus-like flavour with a nice interior crunchiness. I have never found them to be sour as the Gherkin name implies. This heirloom is native to Central America. Also commonly referred to as Mexican miniature watermelon, Mexican sour cucumber, Mexican sour gherkin, sandiita or pepquinos. We like to grow these in hanging baskets, however, they can be easily trellised like a miniature cucumber vine. Grown in most regions of North America as an annual, this plant is unusual among the cucurbits since cucamelon female flowers appear before male flowers. Use in stir fries, pickling, or just grab a hand full, eat them as a fresh treat and enjoy the summer days!

75 days to maturity

30 seeds per packet

Growing Information: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the average last frost and plant outside 12 inches apart around the same time other cucumbers are planted, or direct sow after last frost. Expect seeds to germinate in 10-12 days.
