Iroquoise Muskmelon (Cucumis melo) In 1944, Dr. Henry Munger of Cornell University developed this open-pollinated melon from a stabilized cross of 'Minnesota’ x 'Bender's Surprise'. Bred for high sugar content and disease resistance, the plants produce nice yields of old-fashioned looking melons with wide ribs and coarse netting pattern. Iroquois Melons are round to oval, averaging 8-10 inches long and have succulent orange flesh surrounded by a striking green rind. They are also extremely fragrant and sweet, rating higher on the Brix scale than most other muskmelon varieties.
