Elka White Poppy (Papaver somniferum) - Origins date this beautiful specimen back to the mid-century near the western village of Chrenovec-Brusno, Slovakia. The Elka White heirloom poppy was nearly lost from circulation after mass oil production ceased. The walnut-flavoured seed was traditionally harvested for a rare cooking oil known as ‘Olivet’. Flowers are strikingly rich with creamy white petals and purple centers. Some speckling of purple on the white petals is also common. Plants can easily reach upwards of 36" - 48" inches in height and may require some general support. The crown of the seed capsule pods remain fused, therefore, self-seeding is minimal. Multiple uses for seeds including bread, grinding into a delightful nutty flavoured seed butter or as cooking oil.
