Empress Bush Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) Introduced by Gurney’s Seed & Nursery of Indiana in 1979 as ‘Experimental Bean 121’ but later renamed the Empress Bean. This is a fairly early maturing snap bean that is excellent for fresh eating, freezing, or canning. A staple in our family over the last 40 years. Plants are prolific producers of large, 5-6” stringless green pods. We plant two-three crops in succession each year for seed and fresh beans throughout the season.
