Ailsa Craig Onion (Allium cepa) This onion is named after a stoney island on the outer Firth of Clyde in Scotland, perhaps for its resemblance or the fact that the onion is hardy enough to grow at this northern coastal latitude. A classic mild flavoured onion with jumbo light-yellow tear-drop shaped globes growing up to 8 inches in diameter! Firm, with mild, sweet flesh, this onion has a real nice texture and is splendid in salads or finely sliced in sandwiches.
