Risser Sickle Pea (Pisum sativum) - Another heirloom from our friends at the Secret Garden in Blyth Ontario. Sickle Peas have a long history dating back to the mid 1700’s in England as referenced by John Abercrombie in the amateur gardener's pocket journal. The Risser strain of sickle pea was grown and saved by generations of colonized German immigrants like the Risser family of the Landis Valley, PA. A very attractive and sturdy pea with snow white flowers that give way to pea pods that curve like the blade of a sickle. Plants are prolific climbers requiring a 6 foot trellis. Excellent when eaten fresh as young snow peas.

40 seeds per packet $4.45

Planting Instructions: Sow seeds 1/2 - 1 inch deep, 2 inches apart in row during late spring or when soil temperature is at least 10-15 degrees Celsius.
