Early Scarlet Globe Radish (Raphanus sativus) This open pollinated heirloom dates back to the confederate years with local historical sales literature revealing the olive shaped reds being harvested in the Starr's Point farming communities of Port Williams, Nova Scotia in the early 1860's. This radish was originally referred to as an 'early deep scarlet olive' sold in 1 pound bundles for 5 cents at local markets. Seeds packets were also offered for 5 cents ea. in the 1893 Maul's seed Catalogue. This a an old time favourite that has been widely cultivated in many gardens across North America. One-inch bright red skinned globes with mild white, crispy interiors. An early forcing radish making it ideal for home or market gardeners.
