Guryn Black Beauty Eggplant (Solanum melongena)- Dark purple-black skinned fruits with a classic oblong shape form early on strong, upright plant stalks. We have continued to grow this cherished family heirloom since my grandmother, Katie Guryn, first harvested them over 80 years ago, growing them in old wooden apple crates.

This heirloom is a heavy producer, yielding 8–10 large fruits per plant, and benefits from early summer heat. We often use small greenhouse tunnels to give plants an extra boost, but Guryn Black Beauty performs reliably in most home gardens without additional protection.

80–85 days to maturity

30 seeds per packet

Planting Information: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep in consistently warm soil (22–28°C) and provide bright light to prevent leggy growth. Transplant seedlings into 1-inch cells or 2-inch pots at the 1–2 true leaf stage. Harden off for 4–5 days after the risk of frost has passed. Transplant outdoors once both day and night temperatures are consistently above 10°C. Space plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun with rich, well-drained soil for optimal production.
