Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) This selection comes from a very isolated raised planting bed on a Port Williams acreage in Nova Scotia. I was performing at a private function and noticed the distinctive purple-pink colour of the Echinacea flowers. I conveniently arranged another gig a few weeks later to collect the seed. Purple Coneflower aka Echinacea, is a robust, drought-tolerant perennial and one of the very best butterfly attractors you can plant! Our local Bumble Bee population like it too! Blooming profusely for up to two months in summer, striking flowers are arranged individually on upright stems with soft purple petals surrounding an iridescent red-orange, cone shaped centre. Echinacea purpurea is excellent for cut flower arrangements.
