Ferris Wheel Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Originally released in 1898 by the Salzer Seed Company of LaCrosse, Wisconsin as ‘Ferris Wheel Salzer’. It is believed by many that his may have been a selection from the Ponderosa variety. Ferris Wheel nearly went out of circulation until author and tomato enthusiast Craig LeHouiller made a great save from the USDA seed bank in the early 1990’s. This is a fabulous pink, slightly flattened  beefsteak tomato with few blemish or disease issues. It is a very flavourful slicer that will hang over the edge of your bread or bun. We have noted that almost no cracking occurred in our two years of trials. Also, ripening is somewhat delayed but occurs rather quickly around the 75-80 day mark. Indeterminate vines.

25 seeds per packet

80 days to maturity from transplant

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep and keep soil warm. Transplant into 1 inch cells or 2 inch pots at 1-2 leaf stage. Staking tomatoes (indeterminate) should be transplanted into 3-4 inch pots. Harden off plants for 4-5 days after risk of frost has passed, then transport outdoors.
