Livingston's Ideal In 2018 an organic market gardener from Vancouver Island sent us what he penned the 'Ideal' tomato seeds. In fact, they were actually 'Ideal' heritage seeds he had obtained through a grower in Portland, OR. Originally introduced by the Livingston Seed Co. in 1930 as a uniform greenhouse tomato, targeting market growers. We have grown Livingston's 'Ideal' in the greenhouse and as a field tomato, with equally good result. This is an indeterminate growing plant with strong and sturdy stems and fairly dense foliage. The globe-shaped fruits are red in colour with slightly darkened shoulders. Makes a real nice slicer in sandwiches or in salads. A rare offering that we are quite pleased to grow again this year due to high demand.
