Good Mother Stallard Pole Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) An outstanding heirloom pole bean dating back to the 1930's, named after Carrie Belle Stallard of Wise County, Virginia. These beans remind one of old maroon coloured glass marbles splashed with white streaks. Plump pods have 5-6 seeds. These are a meaty bean with a rich nutty, fruity flavour, making them great in soups. They are also splendid as a shell bean. Plants require some support with their pole habit. We have also noted very good disease resistance here in Nova Scotia.
