Sweet White Runner Bean (Phaseolus coccineus) Also known as ‘White Emergo' these runner beans produce prolific vines with white flowers bearing large slender pods. The beans are commonly harvested at regular intervals when the pods are young and tender. They are very flavourful with a fine texture but must be cooked to avoid consuming the toxin phytohaemagglutinin, which is also high in kidney beans. Left to mature on the vines, the seeds mature into large, white, dry beans. Runner Beans prefer well-drained, fertile soil and a sunny location. Regular watering is important through the hot days of summer.

Growing Instructions: Sow seeds outdoors after danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures are over 20 degrees C. Sow at 1" depth and space seeds 3-5" apart. Plants will require trellising. Runner beans prefer full sun, although they do tolerate partial shade.
