Cream of Saskatchewan Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) This is a family favourite and perfect for short season climates. We have grown this melon from Zone 2b – 6b since we were introduced to the seeds over 25 years ago from a horticulturalist in Portage La Prairie, MB. Cream of Saskatchewan is a Slavic heirloom that was brought to the Saskatchewan prairie in the early 1900’s. Stripy green rind protects a delicious and juicy cream-coloured flesh. Melons range from 5-10 lbs and up to 10 inches in diameter This is a great all around open pollinated watermelon variety, adaptable to any home organic vegetable garden. Handle the rind with care since they are delicate when mature! You will grow this one again!

Planting instructions: Seed indoors 1/2 inch deep. Line out transplants after risk of frost has passed, spacing 5-6 seed apart. Direct seed in raised hills sowing 5-6 seeds 1/2 inch deep. Soil temperature should be at least 21 degrees Celsius. Space mounds 5-6 feet apart, thinning to 3 plants per mound.
