Baba’s Lavatera (Lavatera trimestris) This variety has the brightest of all mallow blooms and has existed in Baba’s south east gardens since the early 1970’s. We collected seeds in both 2016 and 2017 from selected plants. Lavatera is easy to grow and manage. They make a great mixed border or a quick growing, compact screen from your neighbour! This is an impressive, shrubby plant with rich, green foliage and 4 inch blooms that appear from midsummer until the first frost arrives. The satiny, hibiscus-like blooms range in colour from pale pink to deep rose. Lavatera naturalizes over time and now grows wild across much of North America. Lavatera has good pest and disease resistance and is highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and an array of beneficial insects.
