Biwa Sitter Cowpea Bush Bean (Vigna unguiculata) A very productive cowpea, the Biwa Sitter Cowpea growth habit is bush-like where branches sprawl out and cascade once pods are filled. This is not a climbing cow pea and can be grown in containers. The seeds are thought to have originated in South Africa and brought to North America over 500 years ago. Our source has been collected for generations by the Kapayou family of Iowa's Meskwaki Community. Lovely deep green foliage born on burgundy-earthen stems, the plants produce 6-7” pods containing tiny creamy coloured dry beans around 90 days. Popular as a buttery addition often used in soups. A very low maintenance cowpea that produces high yields in both light and heavy soil types.
