Black Sesame (Sesamum indicum) - Our seed source was generously gifted to us by the Secret Garden in Blyth, ON. These plants are very easy to grow and require minimal maintenance. By the warmest days of summer, plants typically reach 3–4 feet in height. Gorgeous pink blooms appear on terminal spikes in early August, followed shortly by the formation of seed pods. As the pods mature, they transition from green to brown and can be easily harvested by shaking out the dry pods.

Planting Instructions: Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost or direct sow after frost once soil has warmed. Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in moist, well-drained soil and keep under bright light. Seeds typically germinate in 7–14 days.
Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors in a warm, sunny location. Space plants 20–30 cm apart. Sesame thrives in heat and prefers consistently warm conditions with well-drained soil.
