Blue Boy Bachelor's Button (Centaurea cyanus) This is an old time classic annual flower, not to be confused with its cousin the Purple Mountain Cornflower, which is a perennial (Centaurea montana). Also known as “cornflower,” these strikingly blue flowers have lined home gardens for centuries. Bachelor button flowers are low maintenance and grow well in a full sun. Expect shades of sky blue to vivid darks depending on climate and soil conditions. In 2018, during a very hot June, we noted a few beautiful variegated, striped silvery-blue blooms in one of our groupings. We hope you are lucky enough to see this genetic trait!
