Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) A beautiful native perennial flower native to North, South, and Central North America. It derives its common name from the colour of the bright red robes worn by Roman Catholic cardinalsPlants grow 16-30” tall, with vibrant red flowers that bloom from July-August. Cardinal Flower will grow in full sun to part shade. Once a common wildflower, but now quite scarce in many regions where it once thrived. The long tubular flowers are difficult for many insects to enter, making the Hummingbird the primary beneficiary of the sweet nectar. They will spot it from a mile away! Limited quantities for this year!

Caution: Like other species in the Lobelia genus, cardinal flower is also seriously toxic to humans and to pets! The customer assumes all liability when purchasing this product. 

Growing Information: Cold-moist stratification required. Mix seeds with moisten soil (vermiculite, perlite or peat moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 4-6 weeks. Start indoors 5-6 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seed at 1/8 inch depth and keep moist. Sow directly outdoors in late fall or mid winter. Plants will self-seed.
