Cat Grass 'Organic Oats' (Avena sativa) Does your cat suffer digestive trouble from hairballs? It is said that oat grass can assist in the removal of hairballs and contribute to good overall feline health. Our two cats love to nibble tender, sweet oat grass, so we plant a flat each fall for them. Growing oats from seed is simple; fill a shallow pan/tray or saucer with moist potting soil, sprinkle oats over the soil at about 6-8 seeds per square inch. Lightly cover with soil and keep moist. Germination will occur in 5-7 days, in 10 days your cat will be nibbling away at the greens! Our packets contain approximately 400 seeds grown under organic production practices and harvested on our farm. You can use the remaining seeds in your garden or raised bed planters as a cover crop to help loosen your soil and prevent erosion. Work in grass before it heads as a green manure crop adding valuable nutrients and carbon back to the soil.
