Turkish Orange Eggplant (Solanum melongena) Originating from Turkey, this heirloom is an easy to grow variety and a heavy producer of tennis ball (small tomato) sized fruits that ripen to a lovely orange colour. Also known as Scarlet eggplant or Ethiopian Eggplant, Turkish Orange are best consumed as they turn from green to the orange stage. Flavour is notably sweeter than the Asian varieties. Plants are very sturdy and typically reach up to 3 feet in our maritime climate. Upright growth habit makes a good container species especially where space is limited on patios, decks and urban gardens.

Planting Instructions: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Sow 1/4 inch deep and keep soil warm. Transplant into 1 inch cells or 2 inch pots at 1-2 leaf stage. Harden off plants for 4-5 days after risk of frost has passed, then transport outdoors.
